A family, a saw, and a lot of wood
We started this with our three children as a reason to be outside together. It turned into a business, but the way it runs has not changed.
How it started
Matt's Smokin' Firewood is a family business. We started it with our three children so we would have something to do outdoors together, and it grew from there into the roadside stand and the wood you see on this site.
Everything is cut and hand-bagged. Not tipped into a machine, not shrink-wrapped by the pallet — filled a bag at a time so we know what is in it. It is slower, and it is the reason customers tell us the quality is consistent.
What we care about
Two things, mostly. That the wood is genuinely dry — which is why everything for smokers, grills and pizza ovens is seasoned and stored indoors through the winter and spring. And that you get dependable, personable service at a fair price. Plenty of customers have told us that second part is why they came back, and we would rather keep it that way than get big.
